Icelandic UCD Mailing List

Written September 18. 2000, at 19:59 GMT.

We've just started a mailing list to bring together people in Iceland who are interested in user-centered design practices and user-advocacy within I.T. development firms. It's called ucd | molar.is and is hosted at the free Icelandic mailing list service Molar. The subscription is open for anyone interested in creating a lively, intelligent dialogue between design professionals.

I'm hoping to see a few people from Gagarin right away, as well as people from all the other web-development and software development firms, in addition of course to my fellow usablility geeks at GM.

I'm especially interested in the Gagarin people, as they seem quite committed to user-centered design. They put up slides from a UCD presentation made by their Tim Gasperak at the recent Nýmiđlun 2000 conference in Iceland.

It is my hope that together we'll be able to increase awareness of the importance of our work and how it relates to the whole process of designing and creating interactive software tools and services for the Icelandic I.T. market.

I've already posted the much-needed formal welcome message and a manifesto/FAQ Draft for the current audience of 2 people.

The Announcement I'm Sending Out:

We're making a community, grass-root style - join in...

http://www.molar.is/en/lists/ucd/
The UCD mailing-list is an open discussion-area for I.T.
professionals, with a focus on the principles of user-centered
design and the practice of user-advocacy within the Icelandic
I.T. community.

There's been a noticably growing awareness of these issues within
the Icelandic I.T. community, but so far people don't seem to have
been communicating across company borders to any extent.

It's my hope that this mailing-list can end our collective
isolation, and bring together our great minds, great ideas, and
great passions.

Please direct any questions to ucd | molar.is, and remember to
spread the word to everyone you know that might be interested in
making contact with all the other Icelandic usability geeks that
are out there.

Cheerfully,
