HCI Design Patterns
Interesting readings: The Brighton Usability Pattern Collection, and also The Amsterdam Collection of Patterns in User Interface Design (Thanks Peterme!). Both are rather scholarly. The Brighton collection seems more concerned with gereric UI issues, while the Amsterdam Collection deals more with specific implementaions.
Very Good: Common Ground: A Pattern Language for Human-Computer Interface Design. "Like other such pattern languages, it does not break new theoretical ground or present innovative new techniques"
... "Instead, it captures ordinary design wisdom in a practical and learnable way."
Finally a good hub, The Interaction Design Patterns Page seems like a great starting point for futher readings on the subject...
I recommend to anyone interested in usability and UI design to sit down on a weekend with a strong double expresso and just read and read. This is a pure gold-mine for the mind.
