Evangelizing Small Page Sizes
This is the subject of an interesting thread on CHI-WEB. One Terry Sullivan wrote in with his three (excellent) weapons in the fight for smaller page-sizes.
- Fact: User leave slow loading sites (Confirmed by GVU surveys and my own paper presented at HFWEB-3).
- Fact: Even for the users who stay, graphical content is a two-edged sword; every elapsed second threatens to compromise users' perceptions of the quality of information at a site.
- "How big is too big?" is a question that is easy to answer, and was first answered over two years ago. (See the "State of the Web Survey" at All Things Web).
He admitted though, that these three points rarely worked against Dilbert-style managerial types, "who don't get it".
