Fear of Links, or, Journalists vs. "Linkalists"

Written May 29. 1999, at 01:00 GMT.

Well, as a logger I am almost morally bound to link to this one. It's an article in Salon titled Fear of Links. It says many of the things I've said.

The Author, Scott Rosenberg, tries to define the weblog phenomena and talks about how traditional journalists often dislike it. The article outlines the strength and weaknesses of weblogs very well, and emphasizes the importance of this new and personal(ized) format of information gathering/publishing.

The only thing I found missing was the issue of how we're most likely going to see much clearer seperation between those who produce articles and in-depth news content and the "info-retailers", i.e. those who compile and present the news and content to the info consumers, and furthermore how weblogs will probably play and interesting intermediate rogue-ish role there.
