At 02:00: US patent office (sort of) admits it's not infallible
The US Patents and Trademark Office has asked for public comments in search for prior acts when they're determining weather an art is "non-obious".
It's good to see them both admit that they may have made mistakes in the past (they don't really say that but that's what I read between the lines) and use the many-eyeballs effect in their service. I believe this request was influenced by the recent open prior-act investigation of W3C.

At 01:00: Fear of Links, or, Journalists vs. "Linkalists"
Well, as a logger I am almost morally bound to link to this one. It's an article in Salon titled Fear of Links. It says many of the things I've said.
The Author, Scott Rosenberg, tries to define the weblog phenomena and talks about how traditional journalists often dislike it. The article outlines the strength and weaknesses of weblogs very well, and emphasizes the importance of this new and personal(ized) format of information gathering/publishing.
The only thing I found missing was the issue of how we're most likely going to see much clearer seperation between those who produce articles and in-depth news content and the "info-retailers", i.e. those who compile and present the news and content to the info consumers, and furthermore how weblogs will probably play and interesting intermediate rogue-ish role there.
